According to someone on Tumblr (I know that Tumblr isn't a very reliable source),one of their friends went to an AG store and a worker there said that the Best Friend dolls are retiring. I don't really think this is true, but I thought I'd post it just in case,as AG store workers were right about Emily and Molly being archived last year. I really hope that it isn't true.

It has been confirmed. I'm very irritated right now. I guess I understand CMG, they were never popular and AG's slowly been dwindling their collection this year, but why do they need to get rid of Ruthie and Ivy? I don't care if "oh we're not going to have best friend dolls anymore cause we want the girl to be the best friend" but seriously aggh

Having had the night to stew over it, I'm back. I can't say I'm happy about this decision, that would be a flat out lie. Are they getting rid of them for popularity reasons, or just cause "oh we're not going to have best friend dolls anymore cause we want the girl to be the best friend"? I thoought Ruthie was kinda popular. And if Ivy wasn't, that's their own fault. They're the ones who decided "oh its an ethnic best friend?... Let's put exactly two things in her collection so no one buys her"(yeah probably not. But still.) but yes CMG was unpopular. Why couldn't they have just retired those two and not Ruthie and Ivy? It's going to be so weird seeing Julie alone on the website, Ivy's been by her side her whole run.

Best friend dolls never sold well for AG. Apparently in 2009, the whole 'get Chrissa's two best friends!' thing was a failure. That's probably why no GOTY has had a best friend doll since. I think people are more eager to buy the 'main character' than her 'sidekick'—though my first dolls were Kit and Ruthie; I felt like I simply could not get Kit without getting her best friend too. I actually didn't realize until now that Addy surpassed CMG in popularity. The three least popular historicals used to be Addy, Josefina, and Kaya—all ethnically diverse. None of them had a lot of outfits, but I honestly do think race might be a factor. Maybe it is just the collection size (I do agree with Nat about how AG's collection for Ivy is laughable—of course she's not going to sell well). Maybe girls want to buy dolls that look more like Barbie, or dolls that look more like them. Actually, two or three dark-skinned MAGs are quite popular. I don't know. AG tends to neglect best friend collections. Ruthie's got a holiday dress and a pajama outift. Whoop-dee-doo. AG does need to release more ethnically diverse dolls, though. There's something satisfactory about owning retired dolls; you can be extra glad that you have them and laugh when other people have to buy them on eBay for a couple hundred dollars. Hehe.

There's the third. So long, Ivy Ling. Marie-Grace is the last one. Will she make it to BeForever? We'll have to see.
